Merson Hill offers lessons to all ages and levels of riders. We are committed to the highest standards of safety while learning all there is to know about horses. Riding is more than just time in the saddle, at Merson Hill we also focus on teaching our students the key stable management skills. This gives out students a foundation and a better understanding about horses and their everyday care.
Here at MH we produce many great riders. Some of our riders enjoy to compete, others just enjoy the horse company. We welcome all riders with goals of all types.
Our main goals are to keep our riders safe, and to make sure they have a great experience.

Lessons are mostly private or semi-private (1-2 students per lesson).
All lessons are usually 40-60 minutes in length depending on the number of students and the activities that are being worked on that day.
Beginner lessons have grooming and tacking up included as part of the lesson to learn how to do these tasks properly and safely.

Lesson Policy

Lessons must be paid for on a monthly-basis (for the entire month) on the first lesson of each month (we accept Cash and Cheque).
We require all lesson students to take a minimum of one lesson weekly as this is the best way to learn and progress in the sport.
On months that have 5 lesson days instead of 4, students are to pay for the full 5 lessons. This means your monthly rate may change depending on the calendar month.
Students may choose to do more than one lesson weekly if desired.

At Merson Hill we have a 24 hour cancellation policy. If for any reason you must re-schedule your weekly lesson, we require a minimum of 24 hours notice, or the lesson will be forfeited.
Makeup lessons will be given for missed lessons. We are very flexible for makeup slots and will do our very best to accommodate your schedule.
If you wish to stop taking regular riding lessons all together, you must let us know in advance. We require a minimum of 30 days notice from the day you would like your last lesson to be.

We require all students to be 7 years of age or older (must be able to focus and pay attention to direction).
We don’t have an upper age limit, we have adult students of all levels.

Riding Attire

We supply all of the tack (equipment) for the horse. Students are responsible for wearing a boot with a small heel (not high heels!), so that the foot won’t slip through the stirrup. Students should also start to look into having their own ASTM-approved helmet.
